Jo Ogier: Lament
22 August - 22 September 2012
These works lament the loss of some of our unique birds such as the Huia and the South Island Kokako and looks at some of the reasons why many of our birds like the Kakapo have been pushed to the brink of extinction.
This exhibition also includes four works in response to the Canterbury earthquakes. In The Godwits Ascent it rises over the Christchurch estuary as it begins its epic journey to the Northern Hemisphere symbolizing the amazing resilience of this little bird and the people of Christchurch, who have managed to rise up and overcome great adversity.
As nature slowly heals her scars on the land and its ecosystem our personal scars and experiences will also heal, but will always be part of who and what we are.
