Matiu Somes: On The Island
Take a day trip over to Matiu Somes Island in the middle of Wellington Harbour for a great opportunity to see artworks inspired by the stories and treasures of the Island and take part in a range of environmentally friendly printmaking workshops.
ExhibitionThe exhibition featuring the works of seven artists will take place in the Caretakers Cottage and will be open to visitors to Matiu Somes Island from 10.30am until 3.30pm Saturday, Sunday and Monday 10.30am till 2pm.
WorkshopsFree printmaking workshop experiences catering for all ages and abilities will be running at two venues on the Island over the weekend.
*PLEASE NOTE these are not full day workshops, but are 15 - 30 minute experiences that you are welcome to access at any stage between the advertised times below
These workshops are generously supported by Wellington City Council and Museum of Wellington City & Sea.
Monoprint Workshops Wellington artists Basia Smolnicki and Vincent Drane will take you through a range of Monotype Printmaking techniques at The Barracks Building on Saturday, Sunday 10.30am to 3.30pm and Monday from 10.30 to 2.00pm
Screenprint Workshops Artist Lynn Taylor will be running Screenprinting Workshops at the Caretakers Cottage on Saturday and Sunday from 10.30am to 3.30pm. Print from one of Lynn's screens or make your own with simple paper stencils.
Booking is not required for the workshops however places will be limited on the ferry over the weekend so booking would be advised. For ferry bookings to the Island go to East West Ferry website.
Before your visit to Matiu Somes come aboard Museum of Wellington City & Sea for an artistic adventure exploring the historical, environmental and spiritual aspects of Matiu Somes island with a 45 minute tour of the Museum of Wellington City & Sea.
