Born in 1942, a classic Capricorn, Chris Adams grew up in England and went to universities in London and Oxford. He travelled to Canada in 1967 and arrived in New Zealand in 1969, where he presently works as a geochronologist at a Crown Research Institute. His researches have taken him throughout New Zealand and the Ross Sea regions of Antarctica.

Chris has also been a frequent visitor to New Zealand's subantarctic islands and the Chatham Islands from 1976 to 2010 on scientific work.

Chris' 'The Subantarctic Islands of New Zealand', series illustrates the artists depth of understanding of the landforms he depicts, and his ability to weave the atmosphere of a place into his images.
